Kennywood Theme Park Kennywood Theme Park contains 31 major rides including 3 roller-coasters. mIt is a must for the family and is one of the most popular theme parks in America. Experience the world famous 'Phantom revenge' and the sensational 'Exterminator' in a park that has something for all the family. Kennywood has two live shows on every day too and four large arcades for those who aren't comfortable on the roller-coasters! It also contains a large food court and loads of other attractions for an enjoyable day out. This theme park is located just 10 miles from downtown Pittsburgh on P.A 837.Take exit 7 to Swissvale on interstate 376 and you can't miss it! The Andy Warhol museum Andy Warhol is without doubt one of the biggest Pop icons of the 20th century. He saw Pittsburgh as being his natural home and you can see his works at this ultra trendy museum. From impressions of Elvis to Marilyn Monroe and Campbells soup Warhol's unique and invigorating spirit is captured in the permanent works that are housed here. Temporary Exhibitions by other artists are regularly launched here too which is testament to its renowned name. This museum is one of only a handful in the world that is dedicated to one artist's work such is Warhol's greatness. The Warhol museum is very popular amongst Pittsburgh's visitors and it is located at 117 Sandusky Street on the north side. More Visitor Attractions Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium Pittsburgh Zoo and aquarium is an impressive 77 acre facility that is home to over a hundred different species. It is dedicated to education, research and wildlife conservation and it contains 32 threatened or endangered species. The zoo is also committed to 25 species survival plans and with the aquarium it is one of only six in the country with this combination. The most notably habitats here is the Asian forest, home of the endangered Siberian Tiger, Cheetah Valley and the aquarium itself with it's penguins, Sharks and giant octopus. The aquarium with its unique revolving tanks is quite a sight and if you get a chance the Pittsburgh Zoo and aquarium is a huge favourite with the kids! Duquesne incline These railway car's originally date back to the late 1800's but have been restored to give beautiful panoramic views of the city. The Duquesne incline is a virtual museum where two 1877 railway cars are used for the residents of Duquesne heights and mount Washington in Pittsburgh. The lower station is on West Carson street near Station square and Smithfield street bridge and the Upper station is on Grandview avenue which gives an insight into the remarkable history of these unique cars .The upper station also includes an observation deck, a small museum gallery and gift shop too. You can view the splendour of the city from these magnificent car's whereby the grandeur of the city's golden triangle is a sight that cannot be missed. Sports to Science Steelers,Pirates and Penguins Pittsburgh is home to three superb teams that all play in America's major leagues. The 'gridiron' Steelers are one of the most popular and renowned teams in the N.F.L and they play at Heinz field a new 211 million, 65,000 seater stadium.At the moment the Steelers who have won the coveted Super Bowl on 4 occasions are having a superb 2004/2005 season where they remain on course for a tilt at the Super bowl. PNC park on the northside of Pittsburgh is home to the Pirates which is also a new 38,000 arena for baseball. The Penguins play ice hockey at the downtown Mellon arena. You can cheer on these proud teams at any of these arenas during the respective seasons in a huge sporting city. The Carnegie science centre The science centre, which opened in 1991 on Pittsburgh's North shore is one of four superb Carnegie museums in the city and this is arguably the best of them all. It contains over 300 science exhibits, a World War Two submarine, and a four storey omni-theatre cinema. Today the science centre is one of the most frequented in Pittsburgh with it gives an entertaining and fulfilling insight into the wonders of science. Currently it is showing the wonders of the Titanic with amazing features on the most famous liner in the world. The omni theatre is a spectacular and exciting cinema giving you the impression that you are right in the middle of the action! The Jimmy Stewart Museum Jimmy Stewart is one of the biggest legends in American film history and his life is celebrated in this creative museum. He inspired millions as an actor and entertainer. This museum is in Jimmy's birthplace of Indiana and is a true celebration of an American hero. Stewart was a god of the silver screen and he retains a place in Hollywood folklore as a superb actor. Wander through this place of dedication for one of the greats and marvel at the achievements attained by a great comrade and soldier. Stewart fought for America's freedom in World war two and his birthplace salutes him with this amazing museum. You can view Stewart's film clips and career retrospectives in an intimate, 1930's vintage movie theatre. Plush with navy velvet drapes and wine colored seats, the theatre features the best of the old and new. The state-of-the-art sound and projection system was donated by Universal City Studios of Hollywood. It is located at 845 Philadelphia St in Indiana and cinema lovers will adore it! (Route 119 becomes Wayne Ave. and takes you to Philadelphia St.) Left onto Philadelphia St., 2 blocks to 9th St., Museum on the right. From the Southeast (Harrisburg, Philadelphia) Turnpike West to Bedford (Exit 11), 220 North to Altoona/Hollidaysburg, Route 22 West to Ebensburg; Route 422 W to Oakland Avenue/Rt. 286 exit. Follow Rt. 286 straight into Indiana. At Philadelphia Street, Museum building will be straight ahead. Hartwood Hartwood is a quant 629 acre estate owned by the Allengheny County department with the Hartwood mansion as it's most famous landmark. This tudor style mansion which was designed by the renowned Alfred Hopkins for the John Lawrence family is a throw back to Pittsburgh's past. It contains some great English and American antiques and it really is a joy to behold. You can take a refreshing stroll through the estates scenic gardens in a quite location. The estate has some great hiking trails and you can go exploring on horseback too. The stable and farm complex is quite impressive in a place where you can get away for a while. Hartwood is a breathtaking place that is full of possibilities for everyone. Designed in 1929 by Alfred Hopkins for the John Lawrence family, the mansion houses a fine collection of original English and American antiques. Its 19th century style architectural design affords both young and old the opportunity to glimpse into a piece of Pittsburgh's past.
