Introduction to Pittsburgh


Pittsburgh is an energetic city, which is situated in the South Western part of the state of Pennsylvania. This industrial haven is located at the point where the Monogahela, Allegheny and Ohio rivers meet and is seen as being a major trading port in the U.S.
A pulsating 10 Block district known as the 'Golden triangle' is located at the merging of these great rivers and is the bustling heartbeat of the city.

Incidentally, Pittsburgh is within 500 miles of more than half of the United states population and is just 90 minutes flight from most U.S airports and Canada too. The 'burgh is a vibrant city which is recognised for it's corporate, financial and educational centres .It was once fought over because of it's strategic point to the west. It was a city famed for the production of steel and iron thanks to major programs set up by businessman Andrew Carnegie who by 1870 was the richest man on the planet. Nicknamed the 'Iron city' for this importance during the Industrial revolution in the 1800's it has a population of 350,363 people is also plush with fascinating museums, famous landmarks and theme parks. A reputation for pollution and dirt was attained by the city but through redevelopment plans in the 50's the city has received a dramatic and popular face lift.

The Carnegie is home to museums, attractions and musical performances, which are located in a huge cultural complex. The Andy Warhol museum is a must for the artistic type where the magnificent works of Warhol are celebrated. Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium is a 77acre facility with many different species is also an attractive prospect. You can cheer on either the Pirates, Steelers or Penguins who are the three major sporting teams in the city. Kennywood Park is a huge theme park, which features three awesome roller coasters. Celebrate the life of Jimmy Stewart in a museum dedicated to the star of the Silver screen. Every one of Pittsburgh's close knit neighbourhoods, the South side and Mount Washington, across the Monongahela river from the Golden Triangle, the North side which is across the Allegheny River and Oakland, the famed university area in the east are all crucial to Pittsburgh's energy and popularity. They retain their own identity but as a whole they make up all that is special about Pittsburgh.
